Very recently I was thrilled to interview Hoka athlete Jim Walmsley who completely smashed up the Western States 100 record this June. He ran it in a blistering 14 hours 30 mins which took a massive 16 min chunk off Tim Olson’s previous record. Jim was a fantastic guy to talk to and gave me over an hour of his time to ask tonnes of the questions you guys sent me on social media. How nice is that?

Jim had some really interesting things to say about 100 miler training, dealing with DNFs, mandatory race kit (he has obviously never run in the UK mountains, lol!), nailing race nutrition, his 2018 UTMB plans & Kilian’s Bob Graham record.

I’m super psyched to have had the opportunity to interview this incredible 100 miler record-smasher and I hope you enjoy the film. Jim was camping up in the Rocky Mountains in Colorado USA so he couldn’t Skype, so this video is audio with some great photos, and film footage very kindly donated by I Run For Ultra.

Jim gave me over an hour of his time for this chat so “THANK YOU Jim you legend!” He had some really interesting things to say about mandatory race kit, nailing race nutrition, his 2018 UTMB plans & Kilian’s Bob Graham record. Here’s where it all is below if you don’t fancy listening to Jim’s dulcet tones for the whole hour (though I totally recommend putting this on as a radio show and have Jim accompany you on your next run!)
