I am totally thrilled to announce the launch of our two new trail races for next summer!

On Sat 13 June 2020 The Nene Valley 10 & 20 mile trail races will take place, starting at and finishing from Fotheringhay’s Castle Farm Campsite near Peterborough in the East Midlands.

I’d love to see you there! I’ll also be holding a special Patreon meet up there too, so get the date in your diary! nenevalleyraces.wordpress.com/

This Saturday I ran the 10 mile route with organiser Janine and wonderful Patreons, Guy, Rob, Alex, John,  Abi and Darren. It was SOOOO windy, but we had a great time and most of them have signed up to the race already – awesome news guys!

I’m organising this with Janine and Anna, two other keen trail runners from our local club the Stamford Striders. Our friendly, supportive marshals will also mainly runners too, lots of them from our club – they know how to give a good cheer! Enter here.

Janine, Anna, Claire (and someone’s dog!)

These races start from Castle Farm Campsite in Fotheringhay, where you and your family can park and camp for free on Friday and Saturday nights. There will be portaloos all weekend, and on race day food and drink vans with delicious hot and cold food from independent, environmentally-friendly local companies.

The races are fully waymarked, marshalled with one aid station for the 10 mile and two for the 20 mile race, stocking things like jelly babies, flapjacks and Vegan snacks, water and cola. GF and other allergies available on request, please let us know.

Please bring your own cup/bottle as we are trying to make this race as eco-friendly as possible, thank you.

Please also car share as much as possible to reduce the race’s environmental impact too. You are very welcome to join our Facebook group to arrange this with fellow racers near you. Thank you!

At the end you will get whopping great cheer from all the supporters and marshals, and a beautiful Nene Valley Races MEDAL designed by award-winning local artist Steven Hall, illustrator for Trail Running, Trail, Country Walking and Bird Watching magazines.

20 mile race

Start: 9:OOam

The 20 miler takes you north west from Fotheringhay on rolling trails through fields and woods to the picturesque villages of Wood Newton, Apethorpe and Kings Cliffe. You dive down a newly created footpath along the old railway line here before looping back round through fields and woodland via Nassington (look out for the field of llamas!), Yarwell (grab a coffee and cake as you pass Yarwell Mill campsite!). Some beautiful riverside running then takes you to Elton, followed by Warmington. Then save some energy for the last (small!) hill back to the campsite. Enter here.

Charity

£1 from every race entry will go to Transition Kings Cliffe, the small charity working to restore and maintain footpaths, protect and promote wildlife in the local area. The 20 mile race uses one of their maintained paths along the disused railway line and it is one of the highlights of this route.
